Chelan County Commissioners Awarded Grace City Church Counseling Contract For County Jail and Juvenile Inmates

On Jan. 25, 2021 Chelan County Commissioners signed a contract with Grace City Church to provide “counseling” for the inmates of the Chelan County Regional Justice Center and Chelan County Juvenile Detention facility.

According to the contract, “the Chelan County Regional Justice Center agrees to pay the sum of One-Thousand Three Hundred Dollars ($1,300) per month for services rendered.”

A photo of the contract. In case no. 6 is hard to make out it reads: “(GCC) may provide an outside relational resource for inmates after release for the purpose of continued relationship building and reducing recidivism.”

That adds up to $15,600 per year.

However that doesn’t mean that Grace City Church is not providing valuable services to the inmates.

Obviously I had questions about the contract. So I reached out to the county commissioners and Grace City Church. I wanted to know how resources are spent and how GCC handles counseling with inmates who are in sexual minority groups – LGBTQ+, non-binary, etc. They have been pretty open with their views on matters of gender roles and homosexuality.

The county got back to me. GCC leaders did not.
