Intro
Hello and welcome to episode sixty-six of Common Sense, I’m Dominick Bonny and in this episode, we’re going to learn about TEAMS Learning Center in Wenatchee to learn about that non-profit organization providing affordable childcare to the Wenatchee, Cashmere, and Leavenworth communities. Since their rates are so affordable and they are a non-profit, they have to find creative ways to make up the difference when it comes to operating capital, and that’s where their Gorge fundraiser comes in. Last season volunteers manning a fried chicken stand raised about fifty-thousand dollars to support TEAMS and its mission to provide affordable quality educational childcare in the Wenatchee Valley. We’re going to learn more about that mission, the chicken stand, and what it supports in this episode. Then we’re going to head over to West Side High School and hear from students about their annual fundraiser, which is dedicated to supporting children battling cancer, and their families. But first, I want to make briefly mention a new study out last week that according to Fortune Magazine quote:
“The largest clinical trial into the effects of ivermectin on COVID to date and generally supports the findings of smaller studies, which have also found no significant benefit to ivermectin treatment.”
In the study, which is published by the New England Journal of Medicine, researchers wrote that quote:
“Treatment with ivermectin did not result in a lower incidence of medical admission to a hospital due to progression of COVID-19 or of prolonged emergency department observation among outpatients with an early diagnosis of COVID-19.”
Now, I have covered Ivermectin before, and even interviewed a local woman who’s father was prescribed Ivermectin to treat a severe case of Covid-19 by a local alternative medical provider. This man advised his elderly patient to drink hot lemon water and take Ivermectin, as well as partake in other unproven remedies and according to his daughter, a local woman named Leanne Lafferty, her father would have died had he not checked into the hospital and received proper care in time. That was episode forty-five of this show and you can go back and catch that via a link in the show notes.
It’s important to keep covering this story and the fallout that resulted because of the Ivermectin craze because as Leanne can attest, the fact that so many rushed to utilize an unproven bunk remedy to treat a serious illness resulted in sick people not getting the proper care they needed and deserved at a time when they really needed it. We’ll come back to the theme of junk science and those who use it to enrich themselves at the expense of others in the future, but now let’s head to TEAMS Learning Center in Wenatchee and meet Miss Joy Robertson and one of her dedicated Gorge volunteers who supports TEAMS.
