Confluence Health is shuttering Medical Unit 1 in March 2024, and that decision has some concerned about what that means for mental health patients, those suffering from dementia, and other folks who need specialized mental health care while also receiving medical attention.

The unit, known as “MU1,” was established in 2014 to provide 10 beds and specially-trained staff to mental health and dementia patients to “provide a safer environment for our most vulnerable patients” according to a Confluence Health press release.

In 2018 the unit received a visit from Washington State Governor Jay Inslee while he was on a tour focused on addressing the mental health needs in North Central Washington.
