On Dec. 13 law enforcement officers, corrections officers and first responders from Douglas and Chelan Counties converged on Fred Meyer in East Wenatchee to make sure that no Eastmont School District student goes without at least a couple of presents this holiday season.
Officers from the Washington State Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, the Chelan Douglas Regional Justice Center, East Wenatchee Police Department and more took about 75 students from all nine Eastmont Schools on all-expenses-paid shopping trips thanks to the generosity of Fred Meyer and individual donors who support the program.
The annual program is organized by Eastmont School Resource Officer Ivy Jurgensen and it’s designed to foster opportunities for police officers and first responders to form positive relationships with at-risk youth in our communities.
It’s not the first time I’ve covered a Shop with a Cop event in North Central Washington, but it’s always a special honor to be invited to witness and help record events like this. I helped produce this video featuring Eastmont Elves 2023 for the Eastmont School District, and you can watch that and learn more here:
And if you would like to learn more about Officer Jurgensen and Officer Cooper, check out this video I shot and edited featuring the two of them and why they are committed to not just protecting students but also connecting with them on a personal level.
