Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison announced Wednesday afternoon that US Customs and Border Protection will take over the search for Travis Decker, who is wanted for the murder of his three young daughters near Leavenworth last week.
Morrison said they have been relying heavily on local resources to track Decker and now its time to rotate the first wave of law enforcement responders and searchers out and let them get some rest. His agency is going to shift focus to the investigation of the murders and ensure that when Decker is caught the best possible case is there waiting for him to be charged.
“We want to find him. We want to bring him to justice. We want to set up the opportunity for him to stand before our judges and our courts and face justice and heard the voices of Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia whose lives were senselessly taken by evil,” he said.
Authorities seemed to be closing in on the fugitive near the Ingall’s Creek area near Blewett Pass last night, and Morrison said the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office is ready to get involved should the search move into that county.
“There is nowhere that he’s going to be able to go that we don’t have units waiting for him,” Morrison said.
He also had a message Decker directly:
“You’re going to have to be perfect every single day, Travis,” Morrison said. “We only have to be perfect one day.”
