Grace City Church Helped Break Up My Marriage Says Former Friend of Pastor Josh McPherson
The pastor with a panic room advised followers to buy surgical tubing to use in 'disciplining' their children and manipulates people, says former friend Corey Magin
Grace City Church and its executive pastor Josh McPherson played a major role in the breakup of Corey Magin’s 13-year marriage, according to the father of three.
“Grace City Church is a huge part of why we got a divorce,” Magin said. “My wife wasn’t really that into church until we moved next door to Josh McPherson.”
Magin and his wife Sarah married in 2008 and other than attending a small church in Cashmere a few times with her mother, religion was not a part of their lives or marriage.
But in 2012 they moved to an affluent Wenatchee neighborhood and found themselves two doors down from the McPherson family.
“When she met Josh I was like: ‘Oh, shit here we go,’ because she was so drawn to this guy,” he said. “Josh has a lot of charisma, energy and he’s very manipulating.”
Magin said his wife “clung onto” McPherson and started attending Grace City Church services regularly. Six months later, she started inviting him to join her.
“I was like: ‘No, I don’t want to. I’m not interested,’” he said.
He ended up going with her a couple of times but said he feels uncomfortable in churches in general.
“Especially his because they have some anti-gay stuff,” he said. “And just things I just didn’t quite agree with that was just kind of annoying – like spanking and corporal punishment for even babies and stuff.”
One of the first services he attended McPherson was preaching about disciplining your children. He advised his followers to buy surgical tubing from Home Depot and cut strips about two feet long and use that to spank their children.
