To help reach Pastor McPherson's $12 million goal some GCC children went door-to-door soliciting donations, and other members sold property

For the last 10 weeks, Grace City Church leaders have been promoting their “Be Fruitful” campaign. The goal is to raise an additional $12 million to further expand GCC’s main compound, establish a new Christian school in the Wenatchee Valley and “plant” a satellite church in Rome, Georgia.
Throughout the campaign, Grace City Church “planter” and executive pastor Josh McPherson encouraged members to take home rocks, which they will bring back on Sunday with a donation or pledge. The focus of much of his preaching and GCC digital messaging recently has been tithing, or in layman’s terms, donating to the church.
In a sermon branded as a “masterclass” titled “Biblical Generosity,” McPherson, using selected portions of selected Bible verses, emphasized that biblical generosity is “sacrificial and faith-filled” and “beyond their means.”
He equates giving to worship and says it’s “a love barometer” that is “shared for encouragement” to others.
“Thinking of generosity as a love barometer is a sobering call to honest reflection—and to action!” GCC member Marisa Zocco wrote in response.
Growing the overall number of members who are willing to engage in “sacrificial giving” is a priority for McPherson.
“Following means not remaining content with zero church growth,” reads the caption on McPherson’s latest reel. “A flourishing church is a growing church. Invite someone to a City Group. Bring your neighbor to church with you. Don’t get comfortable–Live in such a way that invites others to ask questions about your faith.”
Swelling GCC’s ranks with like-minded believers may be one explanation for GCC’s push to entice “homesteaders” to move to the “family capital of the world” recently. In addition to the rocks, GCC members were given flyers with the headline “Wanted: HOMESTEADERS” that included a timeline of the campaign and each Sunday’s message moving the narrative forward to “Victory Sunday” on Dec. 3, 2023.
The flier is adorned with faux ads that offer an interesting glimpse into GCC’s subculture and values.
To kick off the campaign, McPherson announced how much money GCC members’ children had raised after they “stormed their piggy banks and searched the couch cushions.”
That amount was $177,378.81 – all raised by middle and high schoolers.
But some GCC children didn’t stop after breaking their piggy banks or searching for loose change in the furniture – some went door-to-door.
