The House Grace City (and Our Public School Students) Built

Free labor, donated materials and public resources went to build Josh McPherson's 5,000-square-foot home valued at nearly 2 million dollars

In 2014 Grace City Church members raised “over $200,000 to help build” church planter and lead pastor Josh McPherson a new home, according to a Wenatchee School District newsletter published in December 2015. 

Church members not only raised funds for the home, but many of them volunteered to help build the “3,800-square-foot” home near Monitor, which is currently valued at $1,799,000 by Zillow. 

They were joined by public school students from the Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center Construction Trades class, under the supervision of Terry Fike and Josh Bollinger.

Fike is listed as a “guest lecturer” in GCC’s Vector Academy, which is a subject I have covered before.

According to an ex-member, the fact that the McPhersons have children with disabilities was a big part of the marketing pitch for the project. McPherson gave regular updates about the home build at GCC services, but it was never a communicated as a directive or “order” to volunteer. Those who did decide to help out though…
