Originally planned as a 12,000 square foot 'children's training space,' the scope of the project has nearly doubled over the past two years – and some neighbors are concerned
Yikes. We always hear something in their comments that brings back memories: this time I thought of the Branch Davidians and their "last stand" at Waco. Thank you AGAIN for being what seems like the only reporter on the ground. The amphitheater is troubling as it seems to directly defy the legalities of the site (and no wonder neighbors are "tired").
On topic here- if you haven't already seen the documentary Bad Faith (Prime), I recommend you watch this hour and a half deep dive into the history of christian nationalism in America, right up to its influences on the present day legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. Very unsettling stuff.
I'll check that out. I have been eyeing it for about a week. My wife and I just finished "God & Country" on Prime. It's a well-done primer on the subject that also includes some hopeful notes.
Excellent journalism! Thank you Dominick for asking GCC important questions. I wonder why Pastor Adam James, would not want to confirm that an alleged sexual predator does not still attend their church and Strongerman Nation?
Regarding public safety and traffic problems due to lack of adequate parking at GCC:
The City of Wenatchee can solve that problem. The City already has zoning ordinances requiring a specific number of parking spaces for commercial, industry, and multifamily housing. Nothing prevents the City from creating ordinances that require a certain number of parking spaces for churches and places of assembly. The goal is to ensure that there is sufficient parking available to accommodate attendees, reduce traffic congestion, and maintain public safety.
Is the grain elevator the panic room? I’ve never understood that feature. It’s not like they took over an old building that already had one. What a weird thing to build new. Fake farm aesthetic is tacky.
No, the grain elevator isn't built yet and as I recall I think it's supposed to be a play structure. The next phase of building looks to be largely geared toward making the compound more kid-friendly.
As part of the conditional use permit application for GCC's Garden City Academy. The city required a traffic impact analysis. And parking plan. The parking spaces at King's Orchard Church were counted, # 115 spaces, for 350 students K-12 and 25 teachers, the city determined GCC parking plan was adequate.
I also am concerned about the noise level of GCC and garden city academy, who is my new neighbor! The hearing examiner for the school's CUP , included restrictions on outdoor amplified sound. GCC had their attorney appeal those restrictions . I hope it doesn't bother GC A when I am relaxing in my back yard playing Taylor Swift songs on my outdoor amplified system. I also like heavy metal music!
It's become common for posters on the SourceOne site for your articles to state:
"I don't go to this church",, "I don't know this church"
Then they make disparaging comments. It's almost comical.
Haha, yeah it's also funny how many "atheists" support GCC all of a sudden.

Yeah, like what church needs a grain elevator?
Then again, what church trains their kids to use a .50 cal sniper rifle?

I just watched both of them a couple of nights ago. I thought "God & Country" was very good.
Thank you for continuing to report on this troubling organization and their plans.
We would really like to see a list published of businesses owned by these people, and of their members.

More of the same from the city of Wenatchee. So disappointing
Same question about the apple bins- are these just fake farm props too?

Isn’t there a silo feature on the south side? Strange choice in architecture. Like putting fake Roman columns on a building.

Do you think that sustained high noise levels amidst a residential area is acceptable? I mean, 74db is in the industrial range.
I think the City has dropped the ball in not enforcing their ordinances and decisions. They should enforce parking and noise ordinances.
I think you should keep crankin' the Taylor Swift 👍
Absolutely!!! Josh McPherson hates Taylor Swift! I think we can all pitch in to a surround sound system for you! Anyone??? Haha 🤣🤣🤣
