Okanogan County Officials, Citizens Come Together To Assemble Trauma Packs

Folks assembled at the county commissioner chambers in Okanogan to pack grab bags first responders can give to those in crisis or right out of jail

Last week about two dozen Okanogan County citizens, along with County Sheriff Paul Budrow and County Clerk Susan Speiker, gathered in the county commissioner chambers to assemble grab bags full of necessary items for those in crisis.

It was the first time volunteers have gotten together to put the grab bags together and the crew assembled 80 bags in about 30 minutes. I was there and interviewed Speiker about the event and the bags, which include basic personal hygiene products like toothbrushes, deodorant and and tampons as well as a list of free resources in the area. The bags will be handed out by first responders and members of the county’s Behavioral Health Unit, as well as jail staff, to give to folks in crisis or those just getting out of county lockup.

It was impressive to see such an age range represented among the volunteers who came to help, and you can watch a short video I produced to showcase the event above.
