BTW, there is no BPD specific medication approved by the FDA. Only some to moderate a few symptoms. Borderline is quite possibly the most difficult psychiatric disorder to effectively treat. Do we know who made this diagnosis? Anger management would be a useless treatment for BPD. And no evidence of DV. So Im not sure this gives us any relevant insight into this horrendous tragedy. And not too sure we will get any answers as I expect Decker is already dead by his own hand.

And % of male BPD is so low. Lack of Veterans services more at fault. HOW CAN WE BE OKAY WITH OUR SERVICE PEOPLE BEING HOMELESS?!?!

Not just homeless but with a dearth of mental health support that is easily accessible. Feelings of being adrift after leaving the service are well documented and as such, there needs to be a dedicated pipeline of services

Sorry for the rant. I am just sickened at the disrespect of and disregard for folks who chose to follow a career in protecting their country in some way.

Thanks for the comprehensive description of this horrible tragedy. I know my kids and grandkids in Wenatchee are reeling and trying to understand how such an horrific event happened. They attended the vigil last night, but the grandkids were still shaken at bedtime and I suspect they’ll be struggling for awhile.

It’s frustrating how little support veterans receive, but also frustrating that court orders are so easy to ignore and that mental health services are often difficult to obtain even when a person seeks help.

I hope the mom is able to bear this heavy burden of loss and has a huge support network as she’s going to need it. Hug your loved ones today and tell them how much you love them!

thank you for a concise explanation of the situation and your final paragraph is beautiful. Community is everything and especially in times of trauma and anguish

Travis murdering his daughters wasn’t because he has Borderline Personality Disorder. Not that it wouldn’t complicate how he reacted to his crime; running or committing suicide.

I’m worried people will consider those with BPD to be violent in nature when that just isn’t true. Emotionally unstable, yes. Medicine for bipolar or schizophrenia can appear to help with some BPD symptoms, but there is no medicine for it otherwise. It’s an awful disorder and I think this gives you a really good opportunity to write an article about it to help people understand and not fear those of us who suffer. In reality the 2 worst symptoms are hating yourself and wanting to rid the world of your own existence.

I hope some light is shed on what made Travis snap and change is made to help prevent this in the future.

Not to mention, Trump administration is literally creating more homelessness and eliminating what little, inadequate mental health services we had.
