Wenatchee Valley YMCA Hosts First Ever Adult Weight Lifting Competition

With friends and family looking on, many of the participants set personal bests during the friendly competition

On Sunday, Nov. 25, 13 Wenatchee Valley residents gathered at the Wenatchee Valley YMCA for a friendly weight lifting competition. The oldest among them was Pat Neumann, who is 87.

She started lifting weights with her personal trainer, YMCA staff member Sandy Limbeck, about five years ago. She said her son gifted her some personal training sessions so she could work on her strength, flexibility and balance – and the rest is history.

I was invited to come check out the event, so I took my camera along and produced the video above.

My last question in every interview is: “Is there anything else you think the community should know?”

In this case, most of the folks I interviewed wanted to remind community that the Wenatchee Valley YMCA is currently in the midst of a capital campaign to build a new facility in downtown Wenatchee. The current building is more than 100-year-old, has many stairs, no elevator and a new facility is needed.

You can learn more about that and see the plans for the new facility here.
