A Look At Career and Technical Education at Wenatchee High School

From business competitions to personal finance, small engine repair and even caring for robot babies – here's how the Wenatchee School District is preparing students for real life

This week I spent some time learning more about the Career and Technical Education program at Wenatchee High School, and CTE Specialist Amy Spietz was my guide.

She reached out to me recently because she wants the community to know more about the many CTE programs – from welding and small engine repair, to personal finance, to culinary arts and more – that are on offer at Wenatchee High School.

She also wants folks to know that the Wenatchee School District is always seeking industry partners to help enrich the program by giving students opportunities to get hands-on experience or by sharing their knowledge.

So I took my cameras along and filmed the annual “Food Truck Face Off” some of the culinary students were competing in, as well as a Health Science Class and a Skilled Tech Class, and spoke with students and teachers.

This young woman received a brand new welding helmet from the local Norco Welding Supply store to congratulate her for winning a welding competition in Okanogan County last week.

You can watch the video feature I put together above, and if you or anyone you know would like to get involved and become an industry partner with the district’s CTE program, check out the Career and Technical Education Program’s website here.
