La Pera Community Issues Podcast: Talking About 'The Body,' Okanogan County's New 'Cult'

Rafael Aguilar and I talk about the sovereign citizen 'cult,' as one journalist describes it, on our weekly bilingual podcast
Alleged member Christopher Coombes refers to his daughter as '“property” while attempting to avoid arrest and the search of his vehicle.

I recently wrote about “The Body,” which, according to journalist Syran Warner is a “cult” from Alaska that has moved into Tonasket, Washington, in Okanogan County recently.

You can read that piece here, but in this episode of our weekly Community Issues bilingual podcast with Rafael Aguilar on La Pera Radio, I spoke about my lengthy conversation with Warner to learn more about the “church.”

You can listen to that episode via the player above or on La Pera’s website.

I believe it’s essential to communicate to the entire community, not just the English-speaking community, about the stories I’m covering. And Rafael has generously invited me back every week to talk about what I’m working on and translate some of that info for the Spanish-speaking community of Central Washington.

This is my first attempt at uploading our podcast onto my Substack, so bear with me. But if posting the audio files of our Community Issues podcast is something that interests you, the reader (or in this case, the listener), I will continue to upload them to this platform.

You can also go back and listen to all 26 episodes (so far) on La Pera’s website here.

And please support Rafael and La Pera Radio. He’s an asset to the communities of Central Washington. I’m honored and grateful for his taking the time to produce this bilingual podcast.

I just show up and talk about what I’m working on. He does the rest. I appreciate that.
